Traveling to Honduras
We're going to Honduras!!! We finally bought plane tickets leaving just after Christmas and are very much looking forward to spending some of the holiday break with the large Velasquez family (right after we spend a few days with Cathy's family in SD). Our kids haven't been to Honduras since June of 2009 so they are excited for the chance to hang out with their many cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. Guillermo's mom celebrates her 83 birthday on New Year's Day, and his dad just celebrated 85 years in November so we are especially grateful for this time to be with them. With the coffee harvest in full swing, I'm sure we'll also be talking about the coffee business and next year's coffee shipment.
If you've ever dreamed of traveling to the coffee farm yourself, here is an advanced warning that we are thinking of holding an informational open house and coffee brunch sometime at the end of February (most likely either Saturday Feb 19 or 26). More details on that as we figure them out.
WikiLeaks in Honduras
With WikiLeaks stories filling the news these days, we were interested to learn that one of the diplomatic cables that was leaked pertained to the 2009 ouster of Honduran President Zelaya. A recent Huffington Post article explores what was revealed and what it says about US involvement (or perhaps "meddling" is a better word) in Latin America.
Calls for the DREAM Act Needed
We sent an action alert out to our friends and family this week in support of the DREAM Act. If you are so inclined to make calls in support of this important immigration reform legislation, check out our website for details on who to call and why.
Holiday Flavors
Our 2010 Holiday flavors were very popular in November so we stocked up on lots more for December. Here is the list again:
Wind Chill -- Rich cream flavor with signature notes of vanilla, caramel, and dark chocolate has all the warmth you'll need during those frosty winter nights.
Drunken Uncle -- Back again for another year by popular demand! Picture yourself around the fireplace basking in the soothing tastes of Kahlua and Irish Cream laced with Gran Marnier.
Penguin Pals -- This spicy and sweet coffee will for sure bring a smile to one's face on a cold, wintery day! French Vanilla with a touch of cinnamon sticks, gingerbread and nuts.
Pecan Supreme -- Roasted pecans & sweet caramel flavor. Just like Mom’s!
All of these coffees are available in 8 oz bags for $6.00 in whole bean or ground, and in regular or decaf. Our regular flavors are also still available (Almond Amaretto, African Cinnamon, Dutch Chocolate, French Vanilla, Caribbean Hazelnut, Irish Cream) for the same price -- but only in caffeinated varieties. (We offer decaf flavors only during the holidays or by special request.)
Holiday Gift Ideas
Coffee makes a great gift and we have several convenient options for you.
-Coffee Subscription Gift certificates. Give 6 or 12 months of coffee to a friend or loved one. We'll send you (or the gift recipient) a colorful gift certificate explaining the gift. Coffee will be delivered each month for free to people in our delivery route area, or we can also mail a coffee subscription for the added cost of postage. You can pick the type of coffee or let them pick.
-Coffee mailed for you. Make it easy on yourself and let us mail your coffee gifts for only the extra cost of postage. We mail nearly 40 packages of coffee each month anyway, so it is easy to do a few more. We can even include a note from you if you wish.
-Place a December order. And of course, the easiest option is just to order coffee for delivery or mail to you on December 10th. It never hurts to have an extra bag or two on hand for guests or for unexpected gift needs. Coffee makes a great gift for teachers or to bring along for your hosts if you are traveling. Give it alone, or pair it with a set of coffee mugs or a coffee grinder, or include it in a gift basket with other goodies.
We wish you all a very lovely holiday season and many blessings as we enter another New Year.
