Surprise Mother's Day Call

On Mother's Day Guillermo received a surprised phone call from his mom. (What's so surprising about that, you might ask, other than that he should have been calling her?) It was surprising because Guillermo's mom was on the farm when she called where they don't have regular phone service. Guillermo sister bought her mom a cell phone for Mother's Day and so now for the first time Guillermo can call his parents whenever he wants, not just when they are in the city staying with his sister. There are a few tidbits of news from the farm which we'll share in a moment.

But first, a reminder that we'll be doing our June deliveries and mail orders ONE WEEK EARLY this month. We're heading to Honduras on Saturday, June 7th. So if you'll need coffee before we get back on June 23, please contact us by noon on WEDNESDAY the 4th. You can call us at 651-587-5356 or email us at coffee@vfamilycoffee.com with your order. (We'll be back to our normal 2nd Friday of the month schedule next month on July 11th.)

News (and a Blog) from the Coffee Farm
As we mentioned, we're leaving for Honduras on Satuday, June 7th coming back on the 23rd. You might be wondering, "weren't they just there?" Yes, Guillermo and Jake did visit in November. But Cathy and the other 2 kids haven't been there since March 2006 and on that trip we only spent 2 nights on the farm. They are long over due for a good coffee farm vacation so as soon as school is out next week, we're heading south.

It will be good to spend time with family and on the farm. Guillermo dad reports that he is milking five cows every morning and his mom is busy making cheese and taking care of her laying hens. It is hard to believe they are both over 80 years old, they enjoy keeping active on the farm.

While we're gone, we're going to try something new and keep an on-line Blog! Guillermo's sister in Comayagua now has internet access in her home so whenever we are in the city, we'll be trying to log in to report on our trip and to check our email. We'll give a summary in our email newsletter next month, but if you'd like to follow along, visit our new blog.

May Events
Just a quick report on the events we talked about last month, we had wonderful and busy time at the Living Green Expo talking to many, many new people and even more fun lots of old friends. Thanks to all of you who stopped by to say hello. Organizers report over 25,000 people attended again this year.

A week later, we took part in the world's largest Fair Trade Coffee Break at Como Conservatory and Zoo Safari gift shop with our friends from Lazos/Ties. We served coffee to over 100 people in just a hour and a half. It was fun to be one small part of this event that took place in over 200 locations coast to coast involving over 50,000 people in learning about fair trade.
